The Ownership Is the Problem, with No Solutions

Last year, Aaron Rodgers signed with the New York Jets and fans went wild. We couldn’t wait for the 2023 season to start. But then, fate played that cruel joke four plays into the season when he damaged his Achilles heel.

We were all impressed how quickly he seemed to recover and actually believed he would be back for the last game of the season.

But it was not to be.

So this year, being the loyal and long-suffering fan that I am, and many others are, we looked forward to this season with high hopes. And when the dust settled after Week 1, we saw that we escaped with a win that we almost lost.

And in Week 2, while we won again, it was a repeat of Week 1, where we held on for dear life. It was very telling.

Since then, there was plenty of drama between Rodgers and the offense, Rodgers and the now-departed Head Coach Saleh, and the signing of the receiver Aaron Rodgers had to have. And you know what? They lost again.

It is starting to look like 2008 all over again. When the Jets signed Brett Favre to lead the team, he was hailed as the second coming of Joe Namath. But he wasn’t. In fact, for a guy who had played his entire career in Green Bay, I recall a game he started, and lost, because he played like he never saw snow before.

And then, at the end of that season, he was gone and went to play in Minnesota. Another bust for the Jets who had a Hall of Fame career. For someone else.

So, now, Aaron Rodgers, who replaced last year’s quarterback, Sam Darnold, is 2 and 5. And Darnold was released because he was so bad last year.

Hmmmm.

But, as with the Favre Fiasco, once again, whether it is the owner, Woody Johnson, or his current GM, both have proven they know nothing about evaluating quarterbacks. And Woody has a penchant for signing another team’s discarded has-beens for huge contracts.

As for Sam Darnold, he is competing for a playoff spot, and leading the Vikings to a 5 and 1 record so far. He is tied for first in his division.

And what is to come? More of the same? It is a travesty that the Jets are unable to put a winning team, with a winning coach and a decent quarterback on the field to compete.

And the last season the Jets made the playoffs? Fourteen years ago, in the 2010-2011 season with Mark "Butt-Fumble" Sanchez playing quarterback. A mere flash in the pan.

Maybe, instead, it’s time to get rid of the know-nothing owner.
