Does Cuomo Have The Right Stuff? Nope

Would it surprise you to learn that over 20% of the NYPD and about 30% of the MTAPD in New York are presently on sick leave, mostly due to the CV-19, as well as, normal daily callouts? It makes sense since police officers in New York face some of the most dangerous challenges every day without real appreciation from its politicians. And now, the remaining officers are told they MUST work overtime to make certain the city is protected.

To be certain those of you NOT from New York understand, the Metropolitan Transit Authority Police Department is responsible to patrol and protect commuter lines which come into the City each day from Upstate New York, Connecticut and Long Island, known as Metro-North and the Long Island Railroad, respectively.

While I agree that America’s largest city must be protected, due to the foolhardiness of its state and local politicians, New York is required to empty its jails for all but the most seriousness of crimes, and police officers are generally not permitted to arrest perpetrators for anything pretty much short of murder. This is the result of its now-very-popular Governor (outside New York) signing a piece of legislation last year REQUIRING the residents of jails, like Rikers, the Toombs, Attica and other delightful vacation spots to be released due to its new “No Bail Required Law”.

Governor Cuomo has the power under the New York Constitution to issue an executive order suspending this crazy law until it has been completely challenged through the Courts. And any Judge in the State, if one had the guts to do so, could force an injunction against this law for the same reason.

Now, between the result of this law and CV-19, the city’s two police forces, which perform similar duties but are responsible for different areas to be protected, are overtaxed and undermanned, putting the lives of EVERY Police Officer and EVERY New York City resident in extreme danger. But “America’s Governor” and the stooge who is presently the Mayor of the Greatest City in the World won’t tell you that. Instead, they both are bashing the President for their own ineptitude and overall FAILURE to manage anything more than a broom. And they are failing at that, too.

If the Governor really wanted to protect the city, he could easily order the New York State Troopers to assist in patrolling the streets, trains and subways. In addition, since he is ultimately responsible for the management of both the train system and the subways, he could close them both from 11 PM to 5 AM, much like every other major American city does, with varying times.

This would accomplish many things for the city during the CV-19 crisis:

1.      Less manpower needed since the manpower would be used from 5 AM to 11 PM instead of 24 hours, especially since all entertainment venues and most restaurants are closed
2.      More opportunities available to be certain trains and subways are cleaned and disinfected
3.      No opportunities for homeless to be riding the train at all hours of the night
4.      Less chance for crime to be committed, since the subways and trains would not be populated with passengers
5.      Better social distancing would be accomplished with fewer incidents of violent crime, which invariably happens on the subways

So Governor Cuomo, how about it? Why don’t you make some intelligent decisions which benefit the people in the State of New York, which you are sworn to do, rather than worrying how this virus could benefit your political career?

After all, do you really want to be considered a failure, an incompetent in a time of crisis, and be joined to the hip of Mayor DeBlasio forever because you didn’t want to step up and DO YOUR JOB? Do you have The Right Stuff? It is your call, Andy

Make the right one. For a change.
