A Fun and Unexpectedly Memorable Season

The Magic was not there tonight. It was a must-win game and they could not pull the trigger.

It wasn’t as if the didn’t have opportunities to win; rather, they had the opportunities and scored five times. But, they never found that big hit. And the Dodgers were better. Barely.

They left thirteen men on base and seven of them were in scoring position. They even left the bases loaded a couple of times. But when you don’t score, you don’t win.

And when you don’t cash it in, then it wasn’t met to be.

Yet, they were far and away a Miracle Team. They were not expected to be in the playoffs at all and they took the National League Championship Series to six games against the number one seed in the league.

There Is no shame in that, especially since they were the sixth seed. They gave the Dodgers a run for their lives, and scared the heart out of them, even tonight; until the Magic died, finally, in the ninth inning.

So, while there won’t be a Subway Series this year, the Mets played like they had something to prove. And did. They aren’t scrubs.

Next year, when the season begins, there will be a fire in the belly; it will burn hot all the way to the NLCS, and then, take them to the 2025 World Series. And they will not forget what this year taught them all. About winning. About focus. About Team.

And next year, in Year 5 of the Cohen Era, they WILL be back and will be the final team standing. After all, they ARE amazing!

And yes, I am still a long-suffering, but truly loyal fan of the Orange and Blue Since 1962. Crazy maybe. But proud of it. And them.

So, to the New Mets I say, thank you for a fun and unexpectedly memorable season, one for the ages. Wait ‘til next year.
