The Mets are on the brink of losing a playoff game that, before Independence Day, they weren’t expected to even be in the conversation to be in the playoffs. Today, they are hoping to win Game 5 of the National League Championship Series. And, so are their fans.
They have managed to overcome all the experts’ predictions and prognostications. They won their entry to the NLCS playoffs by beating the Braves in Game 161 of the regular season, the Brewers in Game 3 of the Wild Card Series, and the Phillies in four Games of the Division Series.
It has been a great second half of the 2024 Season. And for some of the players, they have excelled well beyond their abilities.
When Steve Cohen bought the team before the 2021 season, he promised that he would have the team in the World Series in five years. In fact, he said that he would be "slightly disappointed" if the Mets did not win the World Series in three to five years.
In Year 2 of his ownership, the Mets made the Wild Card Series and lost to the Padres at Citifield two games to one. This is Year 4 of the Cohen Promise. And if, by some Miracle in a Year of Miracles, the Mets win this afternoon, and then the next two against a formidable Dodgers team in LA, we will be starting the World Series a week from tonight.
But first, let’s root our Mets To Success today. LETS GO METS!!
