Anti-Semitism Rules and Runs Rampant in New York City

In a stunning reversal of fortunes, the former head of the Communication Workers of America union, Arthur Cheliotes, had posted theories and lies that Israel was in on or welcomed Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, terror massacre as a “pretext” to take over the Gaza strip, was forced to resign his prestigious volunteer gig as CUNY's head of School of Labor and Urban Studies.

Ironically, it was Chancellor Felix Matos-Rodriguez, who himself was under investigation two weeks ago for anti-Semitic remarks and practices, who demanded his ouster for spreading “anti-semitic conspiracy theories” about Israel.

Cheliotes had also posted an online thread that compared Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Adolf Hitler.

CUNY has zero tolerance for any type of hate,’’ said a statement released by Chancellor Felix Matos-Rodriguez on Monday.
The outrageous comments endorsed by Arthur Cheliotes, who leads an independent 501(c)3 organization that is not governed by the CUNY Administration, promote dangerous anti-Semitic conspiracies that have no place in CUNY or anywhere else,” the statement said.

Cheliotes, as president of the Communication Workers of America Local 1180 for 39 years before retiring five years ago, was a pivotal figure in helping create the CUNY “social justice” Labor School and other programs that preceded it.

But the labor honcho had become a potential liability for CUNY as the Trump administration investigates Ivy League schools such as Columbia University and Harvard for failing to crack down on anti-Semitism.

Of course, all the Democrat and independent candidates for Mayor, except Zohran Mamdani, the avowed pro-Hamas candidate, lined up to cheer Cheliotes’ ouster. But they were all silent until yesterday.

Funny how that works, isn’t it?

The hypocrisy is boundless until they have to take a stand, and waited until someone else did the dirty work.

This reveals a prevelant anti-Semitism in the largest Jewish-populated city outside Israel, by EVERY DEMOCRAT, including current Mayor, Eric Adams. He is seeking re-election on an “EndAntiSemitismballot line, was ultimately responsible for the last four years of CUNY, and said or did NOTHING before now.

No one is exempt from their obvious hatred, or indifference, to Jews in this. No one can say Mea Culpa, and be forgiven.

The “Jew-hate” is real and out of control, everywhere one turns, even in the “Greatest City in the World.”
