The Mets Season With Forty Percent In the Books

Now that Pete Alonso has put The Captain, David Wright, into the home run rearview mirror, he is setting his sights on the last remaining Met Great who holds the team's all-time home run record, Darryl Strawberry, with 252. He has nine to tie and ten to take the top spot.

His 647 RBI is fourth all-time, behind Mike Piazza with 655, Darryl Strawberry with 733 and David Wright with 970.

He has done this in less than than seven seasons, including the pandemic-shortened season of sixty games in 2020.

At the pace he is going, he will certainly pass Piazza and Strawberry before Independence Day. He currently has 17 homeruns and 61 RBI this season before tonight’s game.

And he has a very outside shot to surpass Strawberry by season’s end to take over second place for all-time team RBI. He needs 86 with about 60% of the season left to play.

But in spite of all the potential personal accomplishments in the offing, there is still plenty of season left to play. Tonight, the Mets begin a six-game homestead, with three against the Nationals and then, a three game weekend series against the Rays.

Then, after an off day on Monday, they play thirteen straight games before their next off day at the end of the month.

Thus far, with their 42 and 24 record, and four game lead over the second place Phillies, it has been an AMAZING season. But their focus must remain on the prize: a trip to and a win of the 2025 World Series.

Then, Pete and the team can relish in THAT and ALL their personal accomplishments.

LETS GO METS!!
