Meteorological Summer, 2025

Meteorological summer, as defined by weather patterns and the calendar, runs from June 1st to August 31st. This is different from the astronomical summer, which is defined by the solstices and equinoxes, typically starting around June 21st.

Meteorological seasons are used by meteorologists and climatologists to analyze and compare seasonal data across different years, as they are more consistent in length and start dates compared to astronomical seasons.

Today begins the 2025 Hurricane Season, which lasts from June 1 to November 30. And of course, “those in the know” expect it to be similar to last year.

June also is the month for graduations, weddings and Father’s Day.

July, of course, we celebrate Independence Day, this being the 249th year of our Glorious Independence. Next year, it is expected to be spectacular.

We also spend many days at the beach or the pool to keep cool.

The beginning of August, we are in the dog days of summer, where the heat and humidity during the day are unbearable. And rainfall is unpredictable.

As the month moves on, we begin to notice that the days are decidedly getting shorter, and the evenings begin to reveal a cool Canadian chill.

During this time, as a society, we plan for our summer vacation. Two weeks with fun in the sun, not a care in the world, two weeks with pay.

And suddenly, we are halfway through the Hurricane Season. How quickly it came!

And then, it is done, but man, it was fun.

Happy Summer!!
