So. Did everyone have a good weekend? I know it's rhetorical, but the optimum answer is yes. The reason? Most of you will have a 3-day work week this week. Unless, of course, you are on vacation, or retired. Then, no work for you!
This is the time of year we all look forward to. There are vacations to plan, BBQs to attend, pools to swim in, even late graduation parties to enjoy. And we can't forget about the free concerts in the town square, the park or the beach. Or going to see that long-anticipated blockbuster movie.
And, for the more adventurous among us, there is camping, hiking or fishing to get us outdoors to enjoy this special time of year. After all, we are easily distracted from life's problems when the right setting is in view.
As you can see, I really don't want to comment on anything happening in the news today. I would rather sit back and put my feet up. I am looking forward to Thursday, Son's house, BBQ, fireworks, late night and long weekend.
This is what this time of year means to me. The Joy of Summer. Actually, the Fourth of July represents the middle of summer, with Memorial Day and Labor Day representing the bookends. I mean, even though summer ends on the calendar on September, 22, after Labor Day, it's back to school, pool is closed, leaves are changing, and much cooler days and nights prevail.
We have so much summer left, so it is a sin to waste it worrying about things that others are responsible to work on and resolve, and are paid to do so. We are in charge of our own destiny, as it were, so let's enjoy what we can do to make our own lives today and tomorrow better than they were yesterday.
I know I am rambling, but isn't it better to think about what is sweet and good for what ails us, than to get down on life? I believe that summer is nature's way of lifting up our souls to the next plateau, so we are better able to deal with the challenges we face all year long.
Today, My Friends, just know that we have something to look forward to and not even current events will get in our way. There will be soon enough the days and weeks ahead to concern ourselves with the things we can't really control.
But for now, it's Summertime and the Living Is Easy.
