But in April, 1961, he learned that the rebels were woefully unprepared to complete the task at hand, and ultimately, the invasion collapsed.
This became known as “Desastre de BahÃa de Cochinos" or the Bay of Pigs Disaster. After it was over, Kennedy took responsibility by claiming “There's an old saying that victory has 100 fathers and defeat is an orphan…”
But he learned never to trust the CIA again. It was evident a year and a half later during the Cuban Missile Crisis. And even when he began to withdraw from Vietnam in September, 1963.
He had wanted to downsize, and even eliminate, the CIA from that point forward. And probably would have had he not been assassinated.
Fast Forward sixty-plus years, and twelve Presidents later, JFK’s goal may just be achieved.
It was revealed yesterday, screaming across all media outlets, that President Trump's CIA Director, John Ratcliffe, is offering the same buyout being offered to other Federal employees to all current CIA employees. Full salary and benefits and they submit their resignations by February 6.
That is one way to empty the rat’s nest. Uhm, the Deep State. Uh, long-term employees.
A spokesman for Director Ratcliffe said, “Director Ratcliffe is moving swiftly to ensure the CIA workforce is responsive to the Administration's national security priorities. These moves are part of a holistic strategy to infuse the Agency with renewed energy.”
Yeah, compliment them as you say, “Get the hell outta here and don’t come back. And don’t let the door hit you in the @$$.”
It certainly will entice many to leave and will definitely shrink the cost of government. Free money and benefits to stay home? That will definitely work.
The US spy agency is also freezing the hiring of job applicants already given a conditional offer, the Wall Street Journal reported, quoting an aide to CIA director John Ratcliffe.
A remake of a downsized CIA, with different goals, focuses, etc, is being undertaken. Some of those frozen offers were likely to be rescinded if the applicants did not have the right background for the agency’s new goals, which include targeting drug cartels, Trump’s trade war and undermining China.
Yes, the CIA appears to be on a path to be remodeled to meet the needs of America in the twenty-first century, not one who still is fighting World War II and the Cold War.
Maybe President Trump is finally going to complete President Kennedy’s dream of what he wanted after he learned the lessons from the Bay of Pigs, Vietnam, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. And what could have been done for the last sixty-plus years.
And if Trump gets this done, JFK may now be able to smile and finally Rest In Peace.
