The following was reported in today's USAToday, via the Associated Press.
"The Russian Foreign Ministry today said none of its Libyan embassy staff was hurt in Wednesday's attack, which came in response to the death of a Libyan air force officer, who was allegedly killed by a Russian woman.
An armed mob broke into the embassy compound in the Libyan capital Tripoli, climbing over walls, breaking down a metal gate and shooting in the air. One of the attackers was killed by the gunfire, and four more were wounded, Libyan officials said.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said in Thursday's statement that Moscow decided to evacuate the embassy after Libya's Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdelaziz visited its grounds and told the Russian ambassador that Libya was unable to protect the personnel."
And, considering that the embassy staff and families fled to Tunisia for shelter, it's not looking too good right now for the "new" Libyan government, is it? This is the same Libyan government that warned us after it happened that terrorists were suspected of planning to attack our consulate in Benghazi, killing our ambassador and his staff on September 11, 2012.
So how is that "Arab Spring" looking these days? A little worse for the wear, perhaps? It seems this "refreshing breath of fresh air" is growing a bit stale and is starting to stink worse than an old man's gin mill.
No matter where we look in the Middle East and North Africa, there seems to be a wave of hostility to anything not Islamist. Even pro-western Muslim countries like Turkey and "pro-Muslim" countries like Russia can't seem to hide from this sea of hatred. Ultimately, the powder keg will burst and the fires of all-out war may be our world's destiny.
The clock is ticking and it's five minutes to midnight. Once Iran goes nuclear, the bells may just begin chiming and the pendulum will stop in its tracks.
Then, it's anyone's guess from where the next attack comes and by whom. Messrs Putin and Obama need to cease and desist from this political crap game and stop the clock now before it's too late.
For all of us.
