The Height of Pettiness

What's going on here? This country maintains many outdoor, open space monuments that Americans do not generally have to pay to access, since they have all been paid for by donations at the time they were built. These include the Lincoln Memorial, Mount Rushmore, the Jefferson Memorial, the WWII Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, and even the White House. And by the way, Mother Nature built the Grand Canyon and Old Faithful.

I know there are others, but these are the most popular, the ones that most Americans want to see and visit each year.

The irony to the closure of these treasures is that the federal government, through the Department of the Interior and other executive branch agencies, needs to provide security to protect these places from vandalism all the time, whether opened or not. Security, along with the additional expenditures for the cost of signs and barricades, is  spent daily anyway during the shutdown, so then what's the point? Is it so that President Obama and his subordinates can protect the monuments from harm, or is it so that he could inflict pain of inconvenience and disappointment on the American people, and then point the finger of blame on the heartless Republicans in the House?

Hmmm, that's a tough one.

This President has made partisan politics and blaming others the hallmark of his administration. It certainly isn't a new type of leadership that he is unveiling; no, he doesn't know how to be a leader. He is still that unprofessional community organizer that he never outgrew. He thinks he is exercising leadership. Instead, he is displaying the worst form of pettiness. Because that's really his nature. And he says all this with a straight face.

So, America, you can blame the Republicans if you wish, but really it is our fault. All of us. For those of you who voted for him again, this is your fault. For those of you who stayed home last November, this is your fault. And for those of you who didn't help get out the vote for Mitt Romney, well, that's our fault too.

This, then, is the result of our own stupidity. We need to own this because our President and representatives in both Houses of Congress won't. It's really time to take our country back.

Remember, the government gets its authority from the consent of the governed. We need to remind our "leaders" of this. NOW!
