By 218 to 215, Speaker Johnson won re-election to lead the 119th House of Representatives for the next two years. Initially, he failed by three votes to secure a majority but after around forty minutes of political wrangling, he achieved the gavel.
In addition, the current Vice President has sworn in the 119th Senate.
Now, the work to undo some of the damage done over the last four years will begin. On Monday, the electoral votes of the last election will be counted and recorded, naming Donald Trump as the 47th President.
Committees will begin the task to interview the designees nominated by President-Elect Trump to serve Americans in his Cabinet. By the time he is sworn in on January 20, hearings and confirmations should be done, with new Secretaries assuming their offices, and ready to work.
Congratulations Speaker Mike Johnson and we support the goals you outline in your acceptance speech, as you lead the 119th Congress to success.
