This is wishful thinking if you are a Mets’ fan. And still minimally possible.
“I’m feeling like Pete is a Met tomorrow,” Esiason wrote on X at 8:48 PM on January 30.
But the he repeated his prediction on this morning's broadcast, which is simulcast on the CBS Sports Network. “I’m thinking today is the day, and I’m thinking it’s probably gonna happen at 10:05. I just wanted to get out in front of it,” he said on his “Boomer and Gio” show, with his predicted time of signing coming five minutes after his show goes off the air.
While it still hasn’t happened, or at least not announced, there is still hope for it to happen for EVERY Mets’fan right up until it is announced he has signed with another team.
“As a diehard Met fan myself, I want the guy at first base, I want him in the lineup,” he said. “Steve Cohen has done a lot of great things for us since he’s taken over ownership of the team and this would be another one. This would be another nice, little present for us as I believe, hopefully they’ll come to an agreement today.”
By now, the truck bringing supplies and equipment is well on the way to Port St Lucie. And players will begin showing up next week. Pitchers and Catchers will officially begin on or about February 12 and the first Spring game will begin at 1:10 PM against Houston on the 22nd.
The hope is that the entire drama will be resolved long before then. Every Met player and Mets’ fan wants what is best for Pete, the fans and the team.
And in a final comment, Boomer said, “Everybody just pump the breaks for five seconds. I put it out there, I will stand by it, and if it doesn’t happen, you can call me a jackass,” he said. "I
want a full team and I want him on this team. I’m telling you, this would be like Saquon Barkley leaving the Giants.”
We surely could agree with that, Boomer. It would be stupid for all sides to allow THAT to happen.
Let’s Go Mets!
