Touching the Face of God

Do you remember where you were thirty-nine years ago? I was in Woodhaven, Queens, New York on a lunch break at my bank's Data Center learning a new computer system to ultimately teach to two banks.
 
But that isn’t why I remember that day. Instead, it was one of those days of infamy, like December 7, 1941, November 22, 1963, June 5/6, 1968 or September 11, 2001.

January 28, 1986 will be remembered when seven souls lifted off on a cold day from  and never came back alive.

Earlier, prior to the launch, there was concern that the temperature was too cold to attempt that day. But as the morning progressed, the decision was made to go.

At 11:38, the Challenger lifted off. Seventy-three seconds later, it was over.

Later that afternoon, a stunned nation heard from President Reagan when he said, “We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for their journey and waved goodbye and slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God.''

Please remember these heroes today.
