In addition, at least 200 staffers will be laid off, as it transitions its focus away from its linear television operation to a more digital-centered news outlet.
And, of course, it is being done to increase ratings and make CNN more profitable. It is clear to even a disinterested observer that the current operation is losing money. Rapidly.
So, now, we are learning that Acosta is having a hissy fit because his show is being moved from his current 10 AM slot to midnight. But this would put him up at 9 PM Pacific Time, which is prime time on the West Coast.
His reaction? As an adult (not) he is threatening to quit. So mature.
Thompson also indicated that due to the higher cost to broadcast from New York and DC, plans are being considered to move much of the operation to Atlanta, where overall costs would be less. That is still on the table.
Warner Bros Discovery is looking to maintain a viable news entity in its stable. And CNN has being a fairly reliable news source for almost forty-five years.
But if Jim Acosta is more concerned about his selfish self than the two hundred staffers about to lose their jobs, then Mark Thompson’s only recourse is to show him the door. He may be somewhat talented, but he is no Cronkite, Brinkley or Murrow.
There are better qualified people who would be happy to work the graveyard shift at a major News network for less money than this jerkweed.
