The Pharaoh Is Dead?

Once again, an Egyptian President will stand trial for ordering the killing of Egyptian citizens demonstrating against the tyranny of the government. A little more than two years ago, the people and the army overthrew Hosni Mubarak, arrested him and placed him on trial for crimes against the people. Now, after less than 18 months, Mohamed Morsi will see the same fate.

I have not been a fan of the "Arab Spring" because while it may have started as a revolution by the oppressed against oppressive governments, sooner or later more organized, more tyrannical, more oppressive elements take charge. The participants of the civil war in Syria are showing their true colors as I write this.

The Muslim Brotherhood came to power under the guise of democracy, but has shown itself to be anything but. The Egyptian people elected Morsi and his party to power believing things would be better economically, politically, religiously. But, instead, basic freedoms have been stifled, the economy is worse and the Coptics are being persecuted and murdered for not professing Islam.

As I wrote in A Coming Disaster in August and The Israeli-al-Qaeda War in June, while both those commentaries are "what-if" scenarios, some of the events are beginning to evidence themselves. Our country, unfortunately, is looked upon as the moral compass of the world by those countries who understand the geopolitics of that region.

We are about to enter our fourth conflict in the Muslim world since the beginning of this century and we may be entering two wars at the same time. Syria is already involved in a civil war, with weapons of mass destruction already used, probably by both sides. And Egypt is about to explode, because the military overthrew Morsi in a coup and the brotherhood is fighting the Army and the people.

Once the US government finally decides what it will do, you and I know that we will become embroiled deeply into the hellfire that is the Middle East. This tinderbox is smoldering like hot coals and brimstone, waiting for the gasoline to be added. We are that gasoline.

Our entry into this latest mess will forever change the global political spectrum as we know it. Perhaps, in fairness to President Obama, this is one of his considerations to wait for the Congress to return, so that a reasoned, thoughtful and serious discussion may be had before our country reaches the point of no return.

Once we are in it, it will be up to our brave military to win it. We would pray for no less for the survival of the entire globe. Otherwise, the prophesy of Revelations will become a reality. And the battle of Megiddo will begin.

So much for the Arab Spring.
