Sexual Abuse of Power

A mayor, a would-be mayor and two teachers are in the throes of battle for their professional lives because they couldn't control their urges to maintain a modicum of decency toward members of the opposite sex.

In the case of San Diego Mayor Bob Filner, he felt it necessary to grab a female assistant in the workplace in a most inappropriate manner, and now wants the city to pay for his therapy. He also felt it necessary that she would deal with this action on his part without wearing panties.

Anthony Weiner's exploits with women on Twitter and Facebook is well-known from his time as a Congressman, and now it has been revealed that he continued this activity after he resigned, in 2011, and continued to "sext" until about a year ago. And two months ago, he felt he was cured enough to run for NYC Mayor.

In the case of Redlands, Ca teacher Laura Whitehurst, she has been found guilty of having sex with three underage boys, one of whom was 14 at the time she started, and has given birth this summer to one of the boys' children. She has been fired from her job.

And finally, an Ohio teacher, Julie Hautzenroeder, has been placed on administrative leave while she faces trial on August 14 for having sex and smoking pot with two underage boys. Her seven year old was asleep at the time.

So what is going on here? In all four cases, it is a person in a position of power acting in a manner not considered in any social more as acceptable behavior under any circumstance. Do these people not get it? Have they not seen others in their positions prosecuted and disgraced by indecent, and illegal, actions?

Do we need to have a discussion with adults about sexual harassment? Apparently, we do. But there is also something else going on here.

In the case of the two teachers, they were immediately placed on the chopping block because they had sex with underage boys. And the criminal justice system in California and Ohio acted swiftly to prosecute these women for their illegal behavior. Why? Because they were powerless against the system? Because they were women?

I wonder. Both Mayor Filner and Mr Weiner hold positions of perceived power, certainly. Mayor Filner wants to go for therapy for two weeks, on the taxpayers' dime and feels that's sufficient. Mr Weiner has decided to continue his run for mayor and let the voters decide. And because they are men, they have a different standard?

I am sure I am not alone when I say that all four individuals need to be stopped from moving forward with their lives with minimal or no penalty, while those who were violated will live with this emotional scar for the rest of their lives.

And all four degenerates should not be allowed to hold positions of power or authority again. If they do, we are all at fault.
