The Pride of Two Dictators Is Proving to be Pointless

For the first one hundred days, the Trump Administration has been an active participant in trying to negotiate an end to the Russian Ukraine War. High level meetings were held by President Trump personally, via phone with Russian President Putin and in-person meetings with Ukraine Presidemt Zelenskyy, as recently as last week at the Vatican.

SecState Rubio and other American diplomats have jetted around the world to meet with Russian and Ukrainian counterparts several times, as well. All to no avail.

Apparently, neither side is willing to finally end the bloodshed. With each side trying to gain some insignificant advantage, while needless deaths occur, and more destruction is proving to be pointless.

Now, the US is stepping back from its involvement in peace talks between Russia and Ukraine to end the war, a State Department official signaled Thursday.

State Department spokeswoman  Bruce told reporters that the US “will not be the mediators” going forward, reflecting President Trump’s frustration at the lack of progress between Kyiv and Moscow in ending the bloodshed. And can you blame President Trump at this point?

“We are not going to fly around the world at the drop of a hat to mediate meetings,” she said, adding that the US remains committed to helping reach a deal.

“It is now between the two parties, and now, now is the time that they need to present and develop concrete ideas about how this conflict is going to end. It’s going to be up to them,” Bruce said.

Bruce’s comments come as Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have similarly said that it’s ultimately up to Ukraine and Russia to make their own peace.

The Vice President and SecState are reflecting the President’s views, which surely have been privately discussed. Perhaps, Putin and Zelenskyy need to be mindful the President Trump is a man of his word. And if he says the US is walking away, he means it.

Then, both the the pride of Putin and Zelenskyy, along with Russia and Ukraine, will earn the world’s wrath as they prove to be the Big Losers in a war that should come to an end. NOW!
