So now, does Steven Witkoff face the same dilemma?
It was reported by Newsmax that Steve Witkoff, the incoming Middle East Envoy, met separately in late November with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Qatar's prime minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. This was to restart the collapsed talks between Israel and Hamas.
Mr Witkoff does not officially assume his position until January 20, when President-Elect Trump is sworn in. An unnamed US official confirmed that Trump's team has been in touch with Middle East officials.
"They are supportive of a Gaza ceasefire deal," the official told Reuters.
And while no comment has been forthcoming from the Biden National Security team either to confirm or deny their knowledge of the ongoing visit by Witkoff, they are not voicing any objection to its occurrence. Therefore, they must have approved it beforehand.
Let’s hope that Steve Witkoff is successful at this time, and there will be no repeat of the Flynn fiasco.
