Donald Trump has, so far, gone in a different direction picking his Cabinet than he did in 2016. This time, it seems, his picks, while not political novices, would not be in any universe, considered Swamp Creatures.
His Chief of Staff is Susie Wiles, his campaign co-chair, and his Deputy COS is long-time Assistant, Stephen Miller, who served him well in his first Administration.
From here, so far we see have seen the following supporters get nods to Cabinet Level positions and other Senior Staff people. In no particular order, they are:
Marco Rubio – SecState
Elise Stefanik – UN
Lee Zeldin – EPA Admin
Tom Homan – Border Chief
Mike Walz – NatSec Advisor
Kristi Noem - Homeland
Most of the Cabinet is still to be named including Attorney General, SecDef, SecTreas, HHS, VA Admin, HUD, SecEnergy, SecEd and several others. He also needs to name new Directors to the FBI, Secret Service, IRS, ICE and other important posts.
Finally, Trump needs to name someone to be Press Secretary, who will have the nerves of steel to stand strong against an antagonistic left-wing media. He knows they will cut him no slack. So the appointee will need to be able to push back and push hard, when needed.
I am sure we will see other names floated and speculated by those who think they are in the know. But aren’t. And then, Donald Trump will continue to surprise us with people, perhaps not even mentioned.
It will be another interesting week, for sure. And by this time next week, we will have a real sense of where the next Trump Administration is headed.
So, sit back, get your scorecards ready and enjoy the ride. It will be fun to watch.
