This week, Patrick Jane finally revealed to Special Agent Theresa Lisbon the seven people he thought could be the serial killer known as "Red John". We have followed along since 2008, through the various possibilities including the diversion of the trial where Jane defended himself and proved to a jury that he personally killed Red John out of revenge for the killing of his wife and daughter, even though he didn't.
Jane also revealed to Lisbon that Lorelei Martin had told him that he had shaken hands with 1,357 people since the death of his wife and daughter, and that one of those men was his nemesis. The most recent victim was Eileen Turner, who was someone Patrick Jane knew years earlier from his days as a psychic in the carny world.
Over the years, Patrick has been very protective of Theresa and quite honestly, Theresa has protected Patrick, mostly from his demons. Undercutting their relationship, is this sense that more than friendship is involved. Although there is no evidence that they ever had sex, one would think that if nothing else, Theresa secretly loves Patrick. Certainly, Patrick had more than platonic feelings for Lisbon.
Complicating all of this is Wayne Rigsby and Grace VanPelt's on again/off again love affair which is prohibited by the CBI's anti-fraternization policy. At one point, they each went their separate ways, but circumstances have brought them back together.
Stoic Kimball Cho, who is Rigsby's friend and partner, has been there to support Rigsby in some of his more difficult life choices regarding VanPelt and also his criminal father. Cho, by the way, has had some issues of his own, like not helping a childhood friend in his time of trouble and dating his CI, Summer, who is a prostitute.
So, Patrick told Theresa his list of suspects which included Gale Bertram, Ray Haffner, Reede Smith and Brett Partridge from CBI and Bob Kirkland from Homeland Security. And Red John made a DVD with Lorelei telling Jane and Lisbon the seven names, as well.
In the days and weeks to come, Patrick and Theresa should be able.... Wait. This isn't real? It's a TV show? It's all fiction? There's no California Bureau of Investigation? No serial killer named Red John? I thought Patrick Jane was a modern day Sherlock Holmes. And that I was watching news updates!
Never mind!!
