Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and his family were asleep in their home when Cody Balmer decided at 2 AM on Sunday to set fire to his home.
Fortunately, PA State Troopers were on scene quickly to evcuate everyone to safety.
The fire left significant damage and forced Shapiro, his family, and guests to evacuate the building early Sunday. The man, arrested later in the day, faces charges including attempted homicide, terrorism, aggravated arson, and aggravated assault, authorities said.
In addition, Balmer admitted that he hated Shapiro so much, had he found him, he “would have bashed his head in with his hammer.”
“I have absolutely no compassion for anybody that commits such heinous crimes,” Fire Chief Brian Enterline said during a press conference. “To anybody that affects my firefighters and American citizens, you don’t deserve any of the luxuries that we have here when you create such heinous acts against our own people.”
One would think that we had enough attempts on the lives of political figures last summer, yes? It is time to dial down the hateful rhetoric by members of both political parties, especially those who are perceived to be political leaders.
The crazies out there are strung out and will snap without warning.
