Trump Meets With Newsom To Bail Out California

In a paraphrase of a line from the play, Oliver!, the New York Post began its Friday night edition of the article discussing President Trump’s visit to California sardonically placing Govenor Newsom in the title role pleading, “Please, Don, may I have some more?”

The Governor appeared to be the contrite child looking at his Daddy as he made nice with the President. And President Trump seemed very classy, with no recriminations expressed how the Governor was handling the disaster in his State.

I appreciate the governor coming out and meeting me, Gavin,” Trump told reporters on the tarmac, after Newsom said Thursday night he would be there to welcome the President despite not having been officially invited.

We’ll be talking a little bit. We want to get it fixed. We want to get the problem fixed. And there will be some ways,” the President added. He also indicated that California was hit by a bomb, comparing to cities in Europe during WWII.

It certainly was not a love fest, by anyone’s imagination. But both men carried the day with respect. And isn’t that what they are supposed to do in a time of crisis?

In the end, there was friendly bantering by both men. The Governor flattered Trump to the assembled media, hours after the President suggested that federal aid to rebuild the Golden State would be granted on the a “condition” of state legislators first requiring IDs to vote in the state.

“We will, we’re going to get it done," said Newsom.

Trump concurred, later adding,  “We will get it permanently fixed so it can’t happen again.”

To which, Newsom replied, “I have all the confidence in the world we’ll work that out.”

Not too much criticism can the media make of that, can it?
