Why Some Critics Hate the Choices

When Andrew McCabe and John Bolton both criticize Donald Trump's designees, Matt Gaetz and Tulsi Gabbard, as his selections for, respectively, Attorney General and Director of National Intelligence, then you know these were great selections.

Both men were forced out of their last positions in the first Trump Administration. So, they are resentful and critical of anyone he chooses and anything he does.

For McCabe, he was the Deputy Director of the FBI during the whole Russia Hoax, and allowed it to fester and continue. He was Peter Strzok and Lisa Page's supervisor who knew they were involved in their own anti-Trump agenda. And did nothing about it for several years.

He was fired on the recommendation of the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility, which cited findings from a report by the Justice Department’s inspector general.

The department watchdog concluded that McCabe inappropriately authorized the disclosure of information to a Wall Street Journal reporter about an ongoing investigation into the Clinton Foundation, and lied about the leak to officials at DOJ.

As for Bolton, he seemed to have grasp on foreign policy, given his background across several Republican Administrations. So Trump was impressed enough to appoint him as National Security Advisor.

But once he was in the position, Trump realized how much of a hawk he was. And soon enough, they rarely talked.

It was a marriage that was never going to last: Trump and Bolton rarely saw eye to eye on global hotspots. The national security adviser held far more hawkish views than the "America first" President on matters like Iran, North Korea and Afghanistan.

In the end, Bolton found himself cut out of important White House meetings and the president's perceived diplomatic triumphs, including the historic visit to North Korea.

After that trip, it was common knowledge to staff and the media that they disagreed on just about everything. It made for a very contentious relationship.

Soon after, Bolton was out.

So, when you hear both of them demand that the FBI investigate Gaetz and Gabbard, just remember they are both very bitter men with axes to grind.
