The Yankees have a 15 - 12 all-time playoff record against Cleveland in Wild Card and Division Series games. This is the first time they meet for the League Championship.
Similarly, the Mets hold a 9 – 6 advantage over the Dodgers. They met once before for the NLCS in 1988, when the Dodgers came from behind and won that Series four games to three.
During this season, the Yankees and Guardians met six times, with the Yankees winning four of those games, while the Mets lost to the Dodgers four times of the six played.
While the Yankees and Guardians last played in August with the Yankees winning two of three, the Dodgers last played the Mets at the end of May before the Mets began their surge to the playoffs.
Both Series should prove to be interesting and hard-fought. While the Yankees, Dodgers and Guardians each won their respective divisions, the Mets have had the best record in baseball since their 22 – 33 start.
It will be fun to watch all these games because, although the Mets were the sixth seed in their league, this team, unlike the team which played the Dodgers earlier in the season, is a better team than the team’s overall record reveals. And the Yankees are the favorite to win their series.
When the dust settles, and the World Series starts on October 25, I expect it will be an all-New York Subway Series. So do many of the experts.
In fact, I am counting on it.
